Burglary Report Leads APD to Grow – March 10, 2010
On Monday, March 15, 2010, at approximately 4 p.m., officers from the Arcata Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Grant Avenue on the report of a possible burglary. A home’s front door had been forced open and the residents were not at home. Responding officers confirmed that the home had been forcibly entered and items were strewn around inside.
After entering the home to check the interior for any suspects, the officers discovered an indoor marijuana growing operation. No one was found inside. The residence was secured and a search warrant was obtained to investigate the marijuana growing operation.
Through the service of the search warrant, officers learned that the marijuana was illegally being grown inside the residence. Over 50 growing marijuana plants and several pounds of dried / processed marijuana were seized. The Humboldt County Drug Task Force was contacted and assisted with the investigation. No arrests were made at the time of the search warrant service.
Because of safety concerns due to wiring and water systems discovered during the investigation, APD contacted the Arcata Fire Department. The City of Arcata Building Department was also contacted.
The officers handling the marijuana investigation were assisted by officers investigating the burglary. The suspects in the burglary of the home are not known. Anyone with information that will aid in identifying the suspects are encouraged the contact the Arcata Police Department at (707) 822-2428.
