Car Winds Up In Bay – April 4, 2010
HUMBOLDT BAY – On March 4, Easter Sunday, at about 8 a.m., the Eureka Police Department received a report of a partially submerged vehicle in Humboldt Bay under the Samoa Bridge. EPD responded to the scene along with the Eureka Fire Department.
The car had initially been spotted by members of the HSU Crew team/staff. They used a small motorboat to inspect the partially submerged car, but saw no one inside. It appeared as if the vehicle had been rolled down the boat ramp and floated about 100 feet west of the ramp before sinking and getting stuck in the mud.
Humboldt Towing responded and was able to connect a cable to the car and pull it out of the bay.
Police are still attempting contact with the registered owner to determine the status of the vehicle, inluding whether or not it had been stolen.
