George, you got caught and were cited for illegally riding your Trikke on the sidewalk. Rather than take it like an adult, you personalize your antagonism against the employee who was doing his job, then couch it in all kinds of fraudulent, poorly-punctuated rhetoric about "compassion."

No one harassed you. The law against riding wheeled vehicles on the sidewalk is so that people can walk safely on them. I saw you riding your Trikke on the sidewalk Saturday at the Farmers' Market.

If you're going to come to Arcata and enjoy it, great. Consider being part of our town rather than a bitchy scofflaw.

Compassion for the Police
Yes, they are a minority that suffers from prejudice. People sometimes hate them
w/o knowing each officer as a unique person who hasn't chosen the most creative job they could.
Part of an officer's training is to look for certain behaviors that tend to make them suspicious of their fellow citizens and it's kind of negative programing. It's hard to punch out and not take this psyche home. Some weekend! And..
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. To catch a thief you must think like a thief?
And when you think how society uses the police to harass the mentally ill , who are routinely dumbed out on the street.
And then the question of the "wisdom" of using the "law" to change the drug culture. Soon we may see the backlash of the present "War on Drugs". Using police resources to enforce prohibition has never worked well. Is it wise to use
limited resources to arrest, expend court/prison resources on a pot smoker who probably paid taxes, had a job and was otherwise a law obeying citizen, who now has difficulty getting a tax paying job and probably goes into the underground economy to never pay taxes again? Some of this will come to an end with
legalization of marijuana. Vote for better use of your dollar. Maybe treatment for people who truly have a drug problem. Not incarceration. Not such a radical idea.
  Another place for compassion.
