The NHUHSD trustees would like to hear public opinion about the proposal and therefore a second information gathering meeting will be held Tuesday, June 29th at 6pm in the Arcata High Multipurpose room.

The public is encouraged to speak.

As the Arcata High Library Media Teacher, a trustee on an elementary board, and the parent of an elementary- aged child, I hope that the NHUHSD decides to place the bond proposal on the ballot. Though I know that times are tough, the proposed bond would add the cost of a pizzeria dinner for an average family to current property taxes.

Our schools are in urgent need of modernization to help meet the needs of our 21st Century Learners and to better prepare our students for the workplace. The recent passage of school bonds across the state and local areas proves that our communities support education.

Any bond measure passed now may take 3-8 years to show-up the schools. Your young children, grandchildren, and neighbors’ children will be directly affected by the choices we make to help our schools today. Many of the proposed improvement projects will also benefit the local area by providing modernized facilities for community groups.

The district has posted a link titled “School Bond Information” on its website which responds to the most frequently asked questions as well as the bond survey results and contact information.

Please come to the Tuesday, June 29th 6pm meeting at Arcata High in the MPR and voice your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Berube
