Meserve sounds like he has some very sound ideas and plans for Arcata. I’ll vote for him.

This E Street project, though. It seems to be Oetker’s baby, and we all know Oetker is the real King of Arcata.

Very disingenuous of Comrade Meserve to claim that he “pushed” for a police officer to patrol the Plaza on foot. The cops were already on foot, in cars, and on bikes. Meserve wanted them ONLY on foot because, he really said, the bike cops were able to sneak up on people and arrest them. Cars are just bad. And the cops he wanted on foot? He didn’t want them to arrest anyone. Or give them tickets. He wanted City of Arcata tour guides/babysitters. He was, and still is, open contemptuous of APD employees. He only wants to come back and try to boss Mendosa around again.

No. No to Dave Meserve. No to a council member that tries to micro-manage the day to day working of the city employees. No to a council member that believes his shiny new, pie-in-the-sky ideas are okay even if they deplete the city coffers at the expense of the working infrastructure the citizens depend upon to be functional and safe. No to a council member that spends city time and funds to try to legislate and lobby for causes not part of city business. (Run for a representative office in that level of government if those are the issues you wish to contend with.) No to a council member that brought ridicule to Arcata from Humboldt County citizens and national media. No to a council member that drove away tourism and retail business that Arcata has still not recovered from. No to Dave Meserve.
