From today's Mack High Bulletin:

Menu
Breakfast is available daily at nutrition break. Students may choose bagel and cream cheese, cereal and milk, fruit and juice all for $2.00. Come by the tables outside the multipurpose room to purchase and pick up.

All school lunch choices are prepared for a walk-around, social lunch and are delivered in a brown bag format. The main food changes daily and is listed in this section. Lunch choices include low-fat milk, vegetable, fruit and dessert. Students, please order a lunch in the attendance office before 8:15 in the morning. It is a nutritional bargain at $3.50 per lunch.

Notice breakfast is served OUTSIDE the multi-purpose room and that lunch is in brown bags for "walk-around, social lunch".

It seems that Measure Q is suppossedly aimed at improving health and safety issues at McKinleyville High School and Arcata High School?

If that is the case, then the money better go to build our teenagers at Mack High a safe, warm place to eat lunch. I cannot believe that students without vehicles or rides to leave campus have to shiver in the hallways, if they cannot find a teacher who is willing to open their classroom so that they can have shelter out of the rain/wind/cold.

I went to Mack High in the mid-80s and remember shivering in the cold hallways at lunchtime. Why has this not changed? Why did the structural improvements done a few years ago just go to benefiting the staff and teachers with new offices and a break room when the main concern should have been the students?

Are my grandchildren going to be shivering in the Mack High hallways, too?
