Student Government Day

CITY HALL – After a five year hiatus, the Arcata Recreation Division again invites Arcata High School government students to work directly with the Arcata City Council and staff for Student Government Day. Students have the opportunity to learn everything that goes on during a City Council meeting through direct participation. From stepping into the role of a Council Member to filming for public access television, students take a behind-the- scenes look at how Council meetings are run. Government students focus on the impact of plastic bag usage in Arcata and are mentored by Council Members and City staff through the process.

Arcata Recreation also invites teens who live or go to school in Arcata, ages 13 to 18 years, to be a part of Teen Voice Arcata, an ongoing youth advisory group to the City Council. More information can be found on our website at www.cityofarcata.org/rec.

Student Government Day takes place on Friday, Oct. 8 at Arcata City Hall Council Chambers from 9 to 10:30 a.m. For more information call the Arcata Recreation Office at (707) 822-7091. On Facebook, search “Arcata Recreation.”
