Arcata Fire Press Release

Additional businesses have come forward to pledge funds for the arson reward, bringing to $21,000 the total offered by the group for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a series of dumpster fires. Investigators with the Arcata Police Department and Arcata Fire District continue to seek information related to a series of dumpster and recycle bin fires that have occurred in the Arcata in recent months. The most recent fire destroyed two buildings and eight apartment units at the Tea Garden Apartments in Arcata on Feb. 2, leaving 15 people homeless.

The additional funds are being offered by Kramer Properties, Slack & Winzler Properties and Anderson Robinson Starkey Insurance.  This adds to the amount already pledged by Mosier Properties, Strombeck Properties, American Property Management, Humboldt Property Management, Pacific Builders, Sundberg Insurance, California Insurance Grou and other local businesses and citizens.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately. Trash receptacles and combustible materials must be kept away from buildings and should be located in a well-lit area. Also, any fires that have occurred, even when they are discovered hours or days after the fact, may hold valuable evidence and must be reported to the Fire District.

The reward of $21,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for these fires. Anyone with information regarding the fires is asked to contact the Arcata Fire District at 825-2000 or the Arcata Police Department at (707) 822-2428.
