Additionally, from the fringe, I have noticed that the California cities that have adopted these “no panhandling ordinances” have been “hippie” culture favorites…is this part of some, dare I say, conspiracy to suppress those who historically oppose and protest illegal wars? It appears that only “hippies” are being targeted.

The Arcata Aggressive Panhandling Ordinance is null and void for want of due process, i.e. then Mayor Stillman neglected to recuse herself from the vote, as she rightly did during the drafting of the language. Curiously, this fact continues to escape public knowledge and accountability. Where is the oversight? Not in Ar-hate-a. Is this not a crime? I am buried in legal process and I apologize for not addressing this matter myself. You know, they banned me from the county law library on gross perjury, though I am confident I will win the appeal or the motion to vacate and set aside judgment. APD, I have not forgotten about you.

The bums are going totally loonies, it’s a new fad to pull out a $20 and light it on fire. Every weekend we are partying in Hollywood and that’s a new game everybody’s doing it late Saturday-Sunday.

Panhandling is a continuing problem. Humboldt County never had a panhandling or homeless problem prior to the 1980′s when the Reagan administration began to dismantle our social safety net. At age 67, the panhandling problem is getting worse for me personally as I get older. Having worked in public social services prior to my retirement, I have no problems saying no, but for those who do not understand that the panhandler is an entrepreneur, it can be very scary experience. I am always polite, but I never give money to panhandlers.
