City of Arcata PRESS RELEASE
APD PARTNERS WITH NIXLE
The Arcata Police Department has joined Nixle, a Community Information Service designed to deliver important and timely information to residents of Arcata using the latest messaging technology.
The Nixle system delivers trustworthy and important neighborhood level public safety and community event notifications by web, e-mail and cell phone.
Nixle is a community information service provider built exclusively to provide secure and reliable communications. Its authenticated service connects municipal agencies and community organizations to residents in real time, delivering information to geographically targeted consumers over their cell phones, via text messaging, through e-mails and through Web access.
Examples of potential information posted on Arcata’s Nixle site are: Natural Disasters, Traffic Advisories, Special Event information, and Crime Alerts/Advisories to name a few.
Nixle is completely free and simple to use. Residents of Arcata can now take advantage of Nixle by registering at www.nixle.com. Nixle is not limited to only residents. People who have family, friends, or businesses associated with Arcata are welcome to join and have the opportunity to share the the service with others.
Police Chief Tom Chapman said, “The recent tsunami event underscores the need for rapid timely communication to members of our community. Nixle will help dramatically improve the distribution of critical information.”
The Arcata Police Department looks forward to this new system. It represents another effort on the part of our department to maintain contact with our citizens and provide them with timely crucial information.
