On March 13th 2011, the Arcata Police Department received a report of a deceased subject in Janes Creek near the 1700 Blk of 11th St.

Officers located a deceased male partially submerged in Janes Creek. With the assistance of the Arcata Fire Department the body was recovered from the creek.

Jeremiah Holland Jones

Arcata Police Department Detectives and the Humboldt County Coroners Office launched a joint investigation and positively identified the subject as Jeremiah Holland Jones, age 22 of Eureka.

Jones had been reported to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department as a missing person in mid-February of this year.

Jones was last seen in Arcata on February 12th. Jones was in a vehicle near Janes Creek reportedly driving recklessly. Apparently, upon seeing a patrol car in the area, Jones and another occupant abandoned the vehicle in the roadway and fled on foot. The other occupant, Ian Henry, 21 of McKinleyville, was located nearby and arrested for public intoxication. A search of the area was conducted, but Jones was not found.

It is believed that after fleeing, Jones tried to hide in Janes Creek where he drowned.

By the color of his ears, it looks like someone had him in a head-lock for a few minutes. You could have researched a more-sympathetic photo. You are selling him as a ruffian with a history of temper. If he went to high school in the area, there could be a lot of people who knew him and who could have provided a more-honorable less biased picture. His life has a story and you told a tired story.
