Stillman Receiving California Preservation Foundation Legislator of the Year Award – May 13, 2011

ARCATA – Longtime Arcata City Councilmember and former Mayor Alex Stillman has been chosen by the California Preservation Foundation to receive its 2011 Milton Marks Award. The award, given to an outstanding legislator, recognizes special achievements in historic preservation by people serving in local, regional, state or national government.

The California Preservation Foundation is recognizing Stillman for her efforts to preserve historic buildings and sites in Arcata through her role as a local developer, activist and member of the Arcata City Council.

“Through your efforts and influence, you have been a major force for preservation in the Eureka-Arcata Area,” the Foundation wrote to Stillman. “The preservation community owes you a great debt of thanks for your role to protect historic resources in the northwest area of California.”

The Foundation will present Stillman with the award at the California Preservation Conference on Monday, May 16 in Santa Monica.

The California Preservation Foundation is a statewide non-profit organization promoting the preservation of California’s diverse cultural and architectural heritage. The Foundation sponsors Preservation Design Awards to publicize the accomplishments of architects, developers, non- profits and government agencies for outstanding historic preservation work.
