Big H Street Project Meeting Monday, Aug. 29

The City of Arcata invites the public to attend a preconstruction meeting to discuss the upcoming road work on G and H Streets between Ninth and 11th streets. The meeting will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29 in the Arcata City Hall Council Chamber, 736 F St., Arcata. All affected merchants, property owners and anyone interested in the project are encouraged to attend.

The Public Works Department staff and contractor Kernen Construction will discuss the roadway and sidewalk demolition and reconstruction work and the sewer and storm drain utility work to be done. After the staff presents a brief project overview, there will be time to discuss the construction schedule, as well as traffic control and public outreach plans.

Construction is slated to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 6, with an estimated completion date of Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011.

    I am happy that the city is remediating downtown Arcata’s post-WW2 road and business layout. Downtown will be nicer when these roads aren’t sized to accommodate traffic from a highway connection that no longer exists.
