The Mayor of Arcata should be proud of the Occupy Arcata protesters and give them access to all city resources. With billions being wasted on stupid, loser wars; banks ripping off the people for billions more; and a sinking economic picture you would think the Mayor of Arcata would be thankful for those trying to draw attention to these problems.

Why do you all worry so much about the people that don’t work, pay taxes or ad anything positive to the community? Honestly I avoid shopping in Arcata because of the city’s stance on these issues.

Not that I am for or against the ” occupation”, but where in the constitution is a time limit placed on public redress of grievances against the government?

As a die hard leftist, I find myself nothing but annoyed by our local “occupiers.” Why “occupy” Arcata City Hall or the Eureka Courthouse? Why not the mall or the banks? Not that any of it amounts to much of anything more than a largely incoherent “movement” with no tangible goal other than opposing greed (whatever that means). What a wasted moment this turned out to be. Instead of a focused movement with specific goals, the whole thing degenerated into a nonsensical campout. Time to regroup and think this one through more carefully.

One need only read, “Animal Farm,” to understand what is happeniing to this so-called Movement. It’s past time to tell these children that the party is over and send them on their way before they spawn more serious mischief. Could you please report how many “occupiers” there are in Arcata? I count about fifteen in the photo.

This all reminds me of a story I heard about how Stalin came to power. As the story goes members of the new communist part were sitting around and choosing jobs for themselves and each other. Well there was one job no one wanted, and so Stalin took it. The job no one wanted was security. The whole idea of the Occupy movement is one Stalin away from destruction. On the other hand, they stand to fall apart into a chaotic, and nihilistic movement without direction as the leaders one by one choose to leave for more productive avenues. As for the “this is not a Rainbow Gathering” comment, they could only be so lucky. Rainbow Gatherings generally operate with a high degree of respect for shared rules. At the several gatherings I have attended there was no visible drinking outside of “A Camp.”

I don’t understand why the city doesn’t just clear them out. How can constant loitering be legal? Not to mention all the sanitation issues mentioned in the article.
