Oddly enough there are no studies showing that checkpoints are effective. There are studies that show that increased patrols are effective. Read the stories about who they caught.

so let the drunks pay for the drunk tank ( Hotels ) stay . why should us tax payers pay for it ? bust all drunk drivers . yes if they can go nout and get drunk , they can call a cab , that is if a cab will take drunks home .

I would just like to point out that when I was 21, twenty years ago, the death rate was one death by drunk driver every 15 minutes. Now it is up to every 48 minutes. The anti drinking and driving message must be getting through.
