I understand what a pedigree is, I was asking what a "high" pedigree is.
ADGA pedigrees do not show milking records nor show wins.
If you are saying that these does come from show winners or high producing milkers, I would be interested in that information.
Northern California has a lot of top quality dairy goats; by saying you will have one of the "genetically best herds in the country" I was wondering what you are basing that on. Will these goats have milk records of their own? Will they be shown? Anyone can claim to be the best, but there are ways to actually BE the best.
I find it quite arrogant to say that your brand new herd, all yearlings, with no kids, milk records nor show experience, will be one of the top herds in the nation. You have some pretty big shoes to fill there..
The breeders that have been breeding and milking top dairy goats for decades might think this a bit arrogant as well.
I suppose we'll be seeing you at our local shows then! Prove yourself!

I have neighbors with exotic looking , large goats, and they are great. A pair of white goats keeps another neighbor's yard cleared (it's a group home for disabled folks) and they're wonderful...... I've even thought about turning my mudroom into a goat home, but unfortunately I rent. Goats are so good for so many things... let's all get us a couple of goats!!!!!!!!!

Jon - here is a good description of pedigree found at: http://www.goats4h.com/Zahniser.html

"Most breeders keep pedigrees for their animals. A pedigree is used to
document the ancestry of the animal. A great deal of information can be obtained from a well annotated pedigree. Many breeders will list milking records, show wins, classification scores, or other important information that indicates the quality of the animals in the pedigree."

I am so excited that you have a "place to live" and a great place for the critters. I travel to France each summer and one of the things I love is the chevre. When I went to Eureka to visit my boyfriend, for the first time, in October, I went to the co op and bought French bread (to die for in North America!) and YOUR chevre (the best in North America- much like I had in France). I am so pleased for your new digs! Let the goats thrive and pet them a lot. I would love to come and visit them! I live in San Diego and search high and low for CGC. I get all excited to find it. But NOTHING is better than the chunks I buy at the co op in Humboldt. Congratulations and thank you. My boyfriend sent this article and I loved it and am so happy for you and the sweet goats! sjg
