ILLINOIS – Filmmaker and actress Suza Lambert Bowser, a Sunny Brae resident, was arrested Thursday, Feb. 16 in La Salle County, Illinois on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a felony.

Bowser, 60, was arrested by the La Salle County State’s Attorney’s Felony Enforcement unit – known as “SAFE” – which is dedicated to patrolling Interstate 80, which has been identified as a route used by drug transporters.

Bowser was reportedly carrying more than 11 pounds of cannabis. Also seized in the arrest was $26,000 and the motorhome she was driving. She was released the next day on $15,000 bond.

At a hearing yesterday, March 1, authorities added a second charge of marijuana trafficking. Bowser will now be allowed to leave Illinois, but she had to surrender her passport. She listed a residential address in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Both charges are “Class X” felonies under Illinois law. Conviction on a Class X felony means a mandatory six- to 30-year sentence, with no discretion allowed by the judge. Probation is not an option, unless the charge is downgraded by prosecutors.

Bowser is a multi-talented creative – a writer, actress, musician, moviemaker and a graphic artist who once penned an editorial cartoon for the Arcata Eye. Most recently, she wrote, produced and shot the independent film Flea in Arcata and environs.

Efforts to reach Bowser were unsuccessful.

always wondered how she got the funding for producing “Flea” hahaha

I’m sure everyone in Illinois can feel much safer now, and I’m really looking forward to paying for six years minimum of incarceration of this threat to society, should she be found guilty of transporting eleven pounds of that dangerous, dangerous drug.

Eleven pounds? I guess being a multi-talented writer, actress, musician, movie-maker and graphic artist doesn’t pay the bills. Maybe ‘dealer’ and trafficker’ would be a more accurate description of what Ms. Bower really is.

What a nice story! Maybe you could start talking to some of the other people you report on to include a nice personal monologue for all the people that are getting arrested like you have this person?

Maybe instead of fanning flames with strategically placed derogitory phrases and a sense of joy that’s been portrayed in past articles on busts and very likely some good lives and families destroyed because of them, unlike we see in this story for some reason, you could focus more of your energy on putting a human face to a lot of people that are victims of the drug war, like you have in this case?

This was a very nice article. Is it just me seeing a MAJOR difference in reporting style of all of the past articles of this type over the past few years?

You have the ablility to do a lot of positive if that’s what you choose to do.

“At the same time, I agree that these are human beings who are being crushed by destructive laws. That is because we, the cannabis users, have failed consistently to vote for decriminalization. It has been on the California ballot since the early ’70s.”

    Well said.

She was arrested with OVER 100lbs as reported in the newspapers here in Illinois ( I feel for the innocent young people that she is supplying this to. At 60ys old and probably a parent you would think there would be some wisdom somewhere in her actions, but obviously her desires to be in the film industry out ways common sense! Very sad situation.

Worth noting that none other than Evangelist Pat Robertson has called for an end to the Pot Prohibition and the ensuing mayhem.!

Liberals need to pressure their Democratic elected officials to put this FRONT burner, and respect the will of the people as reflected in the fact that 14 of 15 Western States have passed Prop 215 type laws, only to be thwarted by a Federal Govt. which has its own agenda. I do NOT hear the required indignation towards the elected officials in this state, (mostly Dems) who squeal loudly when thwarted by the feds on other issues.

Students in the local area performed in bit roles in her most recent film, Flea. Any idea if it will ever come out now?
