SR 299 – On Wednesday, March 28, approximately 6:30 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office dispatch center received a 911 call from a passing motorist who reported witnessing a man dragging a female into a white mini van on State Route 299 near Lord Ellis Summit. The citizen reported the van was now traveling westbound on SR 299.

James Darryl Norwood

The California Highway Patrol and Humboldt County Sheriffs deputies located and stopped the white mini van on Highway 299, between Blue Lake and Lord Ellis Summit. The deputies spoke with the occupants who denied being involved in an altercation. Neither the male nor female had signs of injury; however the female had signs of significant intoxication.

A warrant check on the male driver, who was identified as James Darryl Norwood, 45, from Eureka, revealed he had a $100,000 bench warrant out of Los Angeles County for driving on a suspended license. He was arrested on that warrant. The female, Jennifer Anne Crim, 33 years old also from Eureka, was arrested for public intoxication.

A search of the vehicle revealed 10 approximately one gram bags of methamphetamine in a bag that belonged to Norwood.  Both Norwood and Crim were booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Norwood was booked on the warrant and new charges of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession for sale of a controlled substance, and transportation of a controlled substance. His bail for those additional charges was set at $50,000.  Crim was booked for public intoxication and released from custody after she was able to care for her self.
