So they don't even know that there is already a sidewalk? How community are they if they don't even know what is going on in their own neighborhood? That's insane.
Sean, you are doing irreparable damage to your reputation in this community, but apparently you don't care, and have no sense of decency nor understanding of the proper way to conduct yourself. Cookies? Really?
Besides your wife and your mommy, does anyone else support you?
If you have ideas and the money to develop local agriculture, do it! I sure haven't seen much community ag involvement and development from you. All I see is crap, and insanity.
If you don't have the money and the vision, get out of the way of those that do.
You are completely out of step with the community you are so concerned with. You think you are so smart and know what's best for everyone else. YOu are wrong. Give it up and save some face.

One thing that saddens me about this discussion is that it has fallen into an old, bitter storyline in our community of jobs vs. the environment. This is a story of factory jobs vs. farm jobs, because agricultural land is a business opportunity--productive land is how farmers make their income. We need to save farmland to save farming jobs. All of our arable land in California is under production, especially in Humboldt County-we only have farmland, and the jobs it creates, to lose. This is why our neighborhood we have been pushing for a more compact site plan and an ag easement to protect the farm land that remains, and sidewalks and a bike lane on Q Street, or Cypress Grove to from Alliance through the Reid and Wright Mill. These are reasonable things, and it's just sad that they couldn't come from our public process.

Farming jobs rely on productive farm land. We have hundreds of acres of vacant factory land in Arcata--Cypress Grove shouldn't develop McKinleyville's farmland. Arcata IS the best town in which to own a business, build a factory, get a subsidized loan, or own property that retains its value. Business owners complain about regulation, or neighbors who get in their business, but that's a "community that cares" by another name, and the facts prove that this is the most profitable, most attractive place to do business in Humboldt BECAUSE WE CARE. Cypress Grove wants to stay, our neighborhood wants them to stay, and we need to find a negotiated resolution that allows us all to be satisfied.

Sean Armstrong

I live a few away from Cypress Grove's facility in Arcata. I think they are a real asset to this community and our town. I like the idea that there is a growing business in our neighborhood. My Dad grew up in a small town where people walked down the road to their job in the factory and walked home for lunch. That is what sustainable communities are about. As someone who used to commute to the Bay Area from Humboldt to keep myself in a job, I think we are fortunate to have a company that produces revenue by growing pasture grass, feeding milking goats and making food that brings the outside revenue that sustains good jobs here in Arcata and Humboldt county. I know of Shail and Sean and I am sure they mean well but I think they are misdirecting their energies. As I remember, Sean was a very vocal advocate for the proposed Danco development across the street from his house (though he was working for them at the time). So come on, Arcatans! lets not drive a great company out of our town. It is hard for me to fathom how one family can de-rail a project and a company that benefits us all, (at least with really amazing cheese).

Concerned, Appealing Arcatans, I know you pride yourselves on being alternately the most backwards/progressive part of HumCo.. but it seems you fail to grasp the most basic concept of J-O-B-S = ECONOMIC GROWTH = INCREASED LOCAL TAX REVENUE = BETTER SCHOOLS (and all that good stuff)!! Or even the definition of agriculture which, YES, includes GOATS!! How long will these so called "concerned neighborhood citizens" continue to thwart Cypress Grove's expansion before the global corporation they are owned by just picks up and moves to Oregon or some other friendly rural realm. Cypress Grove is doing Arcata a favor by trying to conduct business in such a anti-business environment, not the other way around! It appears these people are wealthy enough to file the appeal and form an alternative lay-out from an architectural design professional, but not with it enough to see the benefit of more jobs and increased tax revenue for Arcata. Shame on the few who would deny the overall benefit of the many!! Surely there are plenty of wetlands and pastural views to be found in the bottoms, expansion or no!!! To add insult to injury, this appeasl and the general objectiosn to the project deny that Cypress Grove has been an awesome community partner for many years and helps PUT Humboldt County on the map for something OTHER than marijuana cultivation!!! Get a clue!!
