EUREKA – On Monday, April 30, 2012, at about 8:25 p.m., a Eureka Police Officer observed a 1999 Chevy Silverado, driven by 27-year-old Brooke Danna Hames of Eureka, fail to stop for a posted stop sign at Hawthorne and Fairfield Street.  The EPD officer initiated a traffic stop.
Hames pulled to the west shoulder of Broadway in front of Harbor Lanes bowling alley.  A male and female passenger exited the Silverado and fled on foot.  As the EPD officer walked up to the rear of the Silverado, Hames, now the sole occupant, sped away.  Hames continued to travel southbound on Broadway reaching speeds greater than 90 mph as the EPD officer pursued her.
As Hames approached the north entrance intersection of the Bayshore Mall, she swerved to the left and lost control.  The Silverado traveled backwards into the northbound #1 lane where it struck the driver’s side of a 2004 Chevy Venture, driven by 26-year-old Joseph Dalton Chisholm of Arcata.  J. Chisholm was traveling northbound in the #1 lane of Broadway at 35 mph.
The impact from the crash caused fatal injuries to 24-year-old Danielle Nicole Weaver of Arcata.  J. Chisholm and two other passengers, 54-year-old Gary E. Chisholm and 13-month-old Anabele G. Chisholm, both of Arcata, received minor to major injuries. All three were transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital.
Hames fled the scene on foot but was apprehended by officers a short distance away.  Hames was transported and booked into Humboldt County Jail for 187(A) PC- Murder, 148(A)(1) PC- Resisting, Delaying, or Obstructing an Officer, 23153(A) VC- Driving Under the Influence causing injury or death, 23153(B) VC- Driving Under the Influence causing injury or death w/ BAC over .08%, 20001(A) VC- Hit-run causing injury or death, 2800.3 VC- Attempt to evade a peace officer causing injury, and 14601.2(A) VC- Driving with a suspended drivers license.
This collision is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
