Grow A No-Go, But B.B.’s Back – June 13, 2012
While checking the interior of the home, Officer Chris Wilson recognized a framed photo displayed in the home as one reported stolen from the Hotel Arcata in April, 2011. The photo, which was sitting on a shelf with some cassette tapes, was an autographed portrait of famed blues guitarist B.B. King.
Security camera photos of the portrait being stolen from Hotel Arcata’s lobby had been featured in the Arcata Eye. Wilson said he had seen the newspaper coverage, but was already aware of the theft. Besides, he said, the inscription on the portrait, “To Hotel Arcata & Staff,” was “kind of a tipoff.”
The photo was recovered and returned to the Hotel Arcata. Manager Diane Cutshall said it wouldn’t be put back on display until it could be properly secured.
The residents of the home were not present when the search warrant was served and no arrests were made. City of Arcata building inspectors discovered numerous building code violations at the residence which necessitated the immediate disconnection of electrical service.
APD Det. Sgt. Todd Dokweiler said PG&E billing records indicated excessive electricity use at the house consistent with indoor cannabis cultivation.
