Public Meetings On Boyd, Shirley Annexations – August 2, 2012
City of Arcata Press Release
The City of Arcata’s Community Development Department invites the public to two public meetings on the proposed Shirley Boulevard and Boyd Road Annexation projects. The meetings are intended to give property owners, tenants and all interested parties a chance to review the proposed annexation information, voice concerns, and ask questions about the proposals.
The first meeting, on the Boyd Road Annexation project, will take place on Thursday, August 9 at 9 a.m. in the Arcata City Council Chamber at Arcata City Hall, 736 F Street.
The Boyd Road project includes annexation of the area of Boyd Road and West End Road approximately bordered by the Mad River, Highway 299 and Spartan Street. The proposed project area includes 16 parcels.
The second meeting, on the Shirley Boulevard Annexation Project, will take place on Thursday, August 9 at 5 p.m. in the Arcata City Council Chamber.
The proposed project includes annexation of the area east of Shirley Boulevard between Lynn Street and Park Avenue, including parcels on Park Avenue and Park Place. The proposed project area includes 17 parcels.
The proposed Shirley Boulevard annexation is a way to resolve current and future septic system failures suffered by area residents. Hookup to the City sewer system, and the annexation required to make this possible, are necessary steps to solve these potential public health issues.
The proposed zoning and potential nonconforming issues for both projects’ parcels are still under consideration and will be discussed as a business item at the August 14, 2012, Planning Commission meeting to be held in the Arcata City Council Chamber at 7 p.m.
“Property owner and tenant feedback for these projects would be greatly appreciated,” says Community Development Director Larry Oetker. “We’re sincerely hoping for a good turnout and want to get as much public input as possible.”
