Police Stepping Up Plaza Enforcement On Halloween – October 18, 2012
City of Arcata
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HALLOWEEN ON THE ARCATA PLAZA
Arcata Police Chief Tom Chapman said, “The destruction that occurred last Halloween cannot be tolerated. We will be actively enforcing all laws and have zero tolerance for any violations. The safety of the citizens and officers as well as the protection of property will be our top priority.”
In order to prevent graffiti vandalism, public urination, indecent exposure and the illegal climbing of the McKinley statue, the center of the Plaza will be cordoned off. Entry into the center area will be strictly prohibited. The consumption of alcohol and the possession of glass containers are prohibited and will result in citation or arrest. All laws will be strictly enforced.
The City of Arcata and Arcata Police Department wishes everyone a safe Halloween.

Screw you too, APD.

It makes me sick to know how some people, including William Irvine evidently, have just destroyed everything that was good about Arcata. I wish the Pied Ptper would appear and lead all the sketchy, hoodie wearing slithy toves and their cohorts into the bay.

That's a fabulous idea – wonder one recruits a Pied Piper these days?
That's one of the best ideas I've heard in years – wonder one recruits a Pied Piper these days?
And your're just READING about it. It's mind-boggling to see the horrors first-hand…

As much fun as it is to go to the plaza on Halloween, who do you think is charged with cleaning up all the mess and replanting? Certainly not you. If people that had chosen to partake in the festivities could have at least been responsible and respected the area, maybe this wouldn't have happened.

I am not proud of the Halloween activity but I am more embarrassed by the daily activity on the plaza of the drunk, drugged bums who are allowed to ruin daily life on the plaza. How about doing something about this APD?

Jim, what would you have the police do?

Kevin, there is only one thing the police can do, which is to enforce the law to the best of their abilities that their manpower will allow. While it is not my nature to encourage vigilantism, me thinks that a bit of judicious action by the citizens might help the slime find somewhere else to ply their nefarious deeds.
