ARCATA – On Saturday, Dec. 8 at about 3:38 p.m., an Arcata Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Samoa Boulevard and U.S. Highway 101.
The driver of the vehicle did not possess a driver’s license, and officers noticed that the subject, a 28-year-old male from Eureka, was acting very nervous. APD requested assistance from a Humboldt County Drug Task Force Narcotics K9 Team that was in the area.
A K9 search of the vehicle revealed an alert on a concealed compartment in the dash of the vehicle. Officers hand-searched the area of the K9 alert and located approximately four ounces of suspected methamphetamine.
Officers learned that the subject was renting a mini-storage unit in Arcata and information indicated that more narcotics were being kept there.
A search warrant was obtained for the storage unit and served by Arcata Police Officers and Drug Task Force Agents. The search of the unit revealed approximately four more ounces of suspected methamphetamine.
In all, approximately a half-pound of suspected methamphetamine was located along with over $1,700 in cash. The suspected methamphetamine has an estimated street value of over $18,000.
The suspect was booked and lodged into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell.
The investigation is on-going and positive identification of the suspect is not yet confirmed.
