This past fall I noticed an Arcata Fire District fire truck responding to an emergency call out on Jacoby Creek Road. Only the fire truck was not arriving at the intersection of Jacoby Creek Road and Old Arcata Road from the north.

You see because of the speed humps on Old Arcata Road, the fire trucks must drive south on US101 to the Bayside Cut-Off, then head back up Old Arcata Road to Jacoby Creek Road. I suspect the fire trucks take the 'long way around the barn' to avoid wear and tear to their apparatus running gear and suspension.

So if you live down Jacoby Creek road and you die or your house burns for the worse (fires double in size every five minutes) so you can "civilize" miscreants with speed bumps, well, those are the trade-offs you've accepted.
