Pedestrian Killed On U.S. 101 – December 31, 2012

U.S. HIGHWAY 101 – A California Highway Patrol news release indicates that Ethan Pinney, 40, of Eureka, was killed at an unknown time today while walking on U.S. Highway 101 south of South G Street.

The CHP narrative:

Party #1, (Mr. Kenlon) was driving his 1991 Geo Prizm southbound on US 101 southbound, south of G Street in the #2 lane. Party #2, (Mr. Pinney) was wearing dark clothing and for an unknown reason walking in the roadway facing a westerly direction.

Mr. Kenlon suddenly saw Mr. Pinney directly in front of his vehicle and was unable to react in time to avoid a collision. The front of Mr. Kenlon’s vehicle then struck Mr. Pinney.

Emergency personnel from City Ambulance and the California Highway Patrol were notified and responded to the scene. Mr. Pinney was transported by City Ambulance to Saint Joseph’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office will perform toxicology tests on Mr. Pinney.
