Sandy Scott: Debunking A Misconception

Sandy Scott

In July of 2012 I started my tenure at Arcata Chamber of Commerce.

Since day one I have heard the rumor that some businesses; while knowing that they will be able to take advantage of the money saving, networking and other benefits of membership refuse to join because we are a affiliated with the U.S. Chamber. That is a misconception!

The Arcata Chamber of Commerce is not a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. We are not now, have never been nor will we ever be a member of the National Chamber.

Your local Chamber is a non-political Chamber that mirrors the values of the Arcata community. Granted, we are a diverse community representing all factions of the political spectrum, a unique community where folks get along (mostly)… not exactly a Garrison Keillor idyllic Lake Woebegone setting but one you have created to your liking.

One that the Chamber is proud to be a part of. We are a membership driven 501 (c) (6) operating to enhance and improve the business environment in Arcata and Humboldt County.

Forty new members since August is evidence of the beginning of the debunking of this myth. We have partnered with the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Arcata Main Street with a liaison on each other’s Board of Directors…we are honoring our mission statement and working together for you.

We exist to be advocates for local businesses, to support and promote your business to listen and hear what you have to say and to make a positive difference in the community and hopefully your bottom line.

Come join us, let us learn how we can assist you in meeting your goals. Together we can debunk this myth and unite for the success of all.
