ARCATA – Do you know either of the people in these photos? They are wanted in connection with an identity theft and fraud case resulting in nearly$20,000 in losses.

Det. Sgt. Todd Dokweiler said Arcata Police were contacted by a man in Daly City who said he was the victim of identity theft. The man said he had been contacted by the Arcata branch of Chase Bank. Someone had obtained his identity information via unknown means, had withdrawn “significant funds” from his account at the Eureka Chase branch and had opened credit card accounts in his name.

APD then obtained security camera photos of a male and female suspect opening accounts at the Kohl’s clothing store at the Bayshore Mall.

Regarding the suspects, Dokweiler said he detected “signs that they have experience on this” and may have “dressed up for the occasion.”

The security cam photos have been made available to other law enforcement agencies as well as probation and jail officials. Dokweiler said it is possible that someone in the system who is familiar with career criminals may recognize them.

If you have information as to their identity, please contact the APD Investigations Unit at (707) 822-2428 or leave an anonymous message onthe APD Crime Tip Line at (707) 825-2588
