The driver of the ATV fled from officers, leading them in a pursuit that began on Alliance Rd and ended several blocks away on Maple Lane.

The pursuit reached speeds of about 50 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood and ended when the operator of the ATV, identified as Dennis Andrew Workman, 23, of Arcata, failed to negotiate a turn and struck a curb, throwing both Workman and a passenger off of the ATV.

An uninjured Workman was quickly taken into custody and the passenger fled on foot and was unable to be located.

Workman was arrested for felony evasion, driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence and violation of probation. He was booked into the Humboldt County Jail.

Well that explains a LOT. Thanks for the info Mr. Eye.

  2. Sari, the fence blocks visually but I am often not at my north facing windows at 10 PM AND I didn't hear anything. Weird.

  3. Bonnie MacRaith offers this insight into the event:
It was my yard the drunk "joyless" riders ran into with the APD on their tail. Nothing like three cop cars with sirens and lights blaring facing your house! The APD did a great job, very thorough and I have to commend Sergeant Brian Hoffman for coming the next day to help repair my fence… that was beyond the call of duty. The escapee climbed over my fence and ran through my backyard breaking fence boards and trampling shrubs as he went. He really left his friend in the lurch to be arrested. Had someone been in their way (police said 60mph on Alliance) they could have been killed…thankfully for everyone that didn't happen. But, I encourage these guys to get their act together before they do take someone's life!
