Wow – 10m cost for the transformers?! I would have never guessed it would be THAT much!
Some travelers are drunks who hold nothing sacred. But not all of the trashpiles can be attributed to them. Most campers would be glad to pack out their gear, but are not allowed to.
When the park rangers bust a campsite, the campers have 5 minutes to gather what they can carry. They must abandon the rest or risk arrest (or, more likely, physical violence) on the spot. My friends and I have spent many hours cleaning abandoned sites in the forest. We’ve found gear that was rendered useless to anyone; tents and bedrolls slashed with knives, cookware still reeking of pepper spray, tent poles systematically broken. Blood-stained tarps.
A valid alternative to aggressive, confrontational enforcement would be to post a 48- or 72-hour notice to drop camp and abandon the site. I guarantee that would greatly reduce tonnage of abandoned gear and trash.
Mellow Yellow.
Shouldn’t pedicabs be included in the nebulous catagory of “Multi-modal” transpportation? Caltrans uses the term “Non-motorized” to cover bicycles, skate-boards, shanks-mare, pogo-sticks, wheel-chairs, horses, mules, ponies, goat-carts and etc. Multi-modal seems to include planes, trains and automobiles as well as the above. So shouldn’t pedicabs be accomodated like everybody else? And what about sedan-chairs?
