(707) 668-5655. PLANT TREES SATURDAY A tree-planting day at Sunset Creek that was cancelled due to rainy weather has been rescheduled. The Arcata Elementary School and City of Arcata’s volunteer work day at Sunset Creek takes place Saturday, Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to help improve the streamside habitat of Sunset Creek in this fun outdoor classroom activity for the children of Arcata Elementary School (AES). Participants should meet at 9 a.m. in front of AES at 2400 Baldwin St. The City will provide gloves, tools, snacks and beverages. Wear work clothes and closed-toe shoes or boots. AUDUBON MARSH TRIP Redwood Region Audubon Society is sponsoring a free public field trip through the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday, Feb. 4. MARSH BIRD VIEWING Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. Meet leader Rich Ridenhour at the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk focusing on the birds and plants of the Marsh. For more information, call (707) 826-2359. DUNES DISCOVERIES Join Friends of the Dunes on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 3 to 5 p.m. for a discovery of the trails of the Manila Dunes Recreation Area. This two-hour hike explores dune, forest and beach habitats, concluding on the beach to enjoy the low tide and setting sun. Meet at the Manila Dunes Community Center at 1611 Peninsula Drive. Come prepared for moderate hiking on soft sand, wet trails through the dune hollows and light rain. Heavy rain cancels.
