AUDUBON MARSH TOUR Redwood Region Audubon Society is sponsoring a free public field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday, June 22. Bring your binoculars and have a great morning birding! Meet leader Pat Bitton in the parking lot at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata at 8:30 a.m., rain or shine. Trip ends around 11 a.m. SPEEDER RIDES ARE GOOD FOR YOU Beginning on Saturday, June 22, speeder crew car rides will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m on the fourth Saturday of each month of June, July, August and September. Join the Hammond Club and receive a free speeder ride and view Timber Heritage’s historic collection of logging equipment and steam locomotives. Membership is only $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for children under 8. Membership and reservation information is at timberheritage.org. Rides begin and end at the foot of the Samoa Cookhouse driveway and parking is available. This is a fun outing for all ages and offers a spectacular view of our historic Humboldt Bay. LOS BAGELS BASKETBALL BENEFIT TOURNAMENT Los Bagels holds its 17th Annual Benefit Basketball Tournament Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23. The competitive, two-on-two tournament encourages both men and women age 14 and up to compete in this double elimination, round robin event to be held on the basketball court in the Arcata Los Bagels parking lot. The cost is $30 per team to enter, which includes two limited edition tournament t-shirts and the chance to win fabulous prizes donated by local businesses. MARSHING WITH MILT Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday, June 22 at 2 p.m. Meet leader Milt Boyd at the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk focusing on the ecology of the Marsh. SLOW-SPEED MARSH TOUR Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) is sponsoring a free “Slower-Speed Arcata Marsh Tour” geared to persons with limited mobility on Tuesday, June 25 at 2 p.m. The tour will last 45 to 60 minutes across even, level ground and is suitable to attendees of all ages who use canes, walkers with a seat, wheelchairs, guide dogs, or those who are unable to keep up on regular walks. Leaders are Jane Wilson and John McNeely. Meet in the Klopp Lake parking at the end of South I Street. This tour is held the last Tuesday of each month. A couple of friends rave about your town. They often visit, to get away from the heat in Redding. My husband and I are thinking about visiting and if we like it, relocate there from busy OC beaches and traffic. Any suggestions as to real estate for sale or rent?
