Mike Thompson’s 20 years in public office was celebrated at Robert Mondavi’s winery in Napa Sunday, Aug. 22. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi introduced Thompson to the crowd of more than 1,000 attendees, then got her very own copy of Locally Delicious, above left. She and the other top politicians in attendance wasted no time having their pictures taken with two of Humboldt’s celebrated Heirloom Tomatoes, Suzanne Simpson and Ann Anderson. Top middle, Pelosi; top right, Thompson; above middle, Willie Brown; above right, Nancy and Peter LaVallee. The celebration included a sampling of each county the congressman represents. Humboldt County was represented by some of Humboldt’s finest food producers and winemakers. Top left, Avalon and Arcata’s own Bizou was represented by chef Ron Garrido grilling Humboldt Bay raised oysters; middle left, Mary Keehn and husband Roger stood proudly in front of a multi-tiered “cake” of Humboldt Fog honoring Thompson for his 20 years of service, as well as being a nod to the Congressman’s birthday; bottom left, Robert Goodman poured his own wines. Below middle, more Humboldt bounty. Below right, one of the 600 Mayor Alex Stillman cyborgs that fan out daily to every public event. Photos by Sharon Letts
