Chamber Names Leading Businesses – December 15, 2010
ARCATA – The Arcata Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, its Leadership Committee and staff are pleased to announce the 2011 Leadership Award nominees.
The Chamber also thanks each of the top finalists who were selected for the 2011 Leadership Awards.
The process for the Leadership Awards starts early in the summer. Each Chamber business member is reviewed and placed in a grouping to match that business/organization.
Businesses are selected for a variety of reasons: involvement with the community, outreach to youth, employee standards, leadership ethics, membership standings, involvement with the Chamber and other philanthropic work.
After reviewing the overall list, a top 25 list of businesses selected in each category – from there a top 12 list is reviewed by the Leadership Awards Committee who then select the final four; the top four are then placed on a ballot for the membership to vote on.
More than 400 Chamber businesses were up for review this year.
2011 Leadership Awardees
Business of the Year: Coast Central Credit Union
Small Business of the Year: Jade Dragon Medical Spa
Green Business of the Year: North Coast Growers Association (Farmers’ Market)
Non-Profit Business of the Year: Rotary Club Arcata Sunrise
New Business of the Year: Far North Climbing Gym
Hospitality and Tourism: Brett Shuler Fine Catering
Other Special Awards: 2011 Beautification Award (selected by the Chamber Committee): Humboldt State University.
Special Chamber Outreach, Community Service Award (chosen by the Chamber Committee): Arcata Police Department
The City of Arcata’s special 2011 Award recipient: Murphy’s Market
Last, but certainly not least, the 2010 Business Leader of the Year, which is the highlight to the award’s dinner, will be announced and honored at the award’s ceremony – an honor that is kept in secrecy and is only announced first at the awards event.
The Business Leader of the Year is selected by former Business of the Year Leaders.
Invitations for the Annual Leadership Awards and Dinner will be sent out electronically to the membership in December. The event will be held Feb. 19.
