Laptop Lloyd’s Shoeless Median Misadventure – August 9, 2012

On Wednesday, Aug. 8 at approximately 11 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding three men detaining a burglary suspect in the center median of U.S. Highway 101 near Bracut.
When deputies arrived they met with the men who had detained Lloyd Velazquez, 25, from Eureka. The men told the deputies they had leased property at Bracutt.
They had been upstairs working in the main building when they saw Velazquez walking out of the bottom floor with one of the men’s backpacks on. They ran outside to confront Velazquez and he fled. They chased after him.
During the chase Velazquez dropped the backpack. The three men caught Velazquez in the center median of U.S. 101 about a quarter of a mile south of Bracut Industrial Park. They removed his shoes so he could not run anymore and detained him until deputies arrived.
The stolen backpack contained a laptop computer belonging to one of the men. The stolen property was returned to the victim.
Deputies took custody of Velazquez who was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of state parole. He is being held without bail.
